Jeep CJ7
A: cj/7 s are older , there are alot of things that make them different, l;ike the size of them , where the turn lights are, the boxyness of the body, im not sure but i dont think they ever put fuel injection on the cj’s but dont qoute me on that, the tailgates are different, im trying to put a cj/7 tailgate on my yj, up until 97 the wrangler had square headlights, just alot of stuff like that, go with a wrangler, unless you arent to picky about the ride comfort. everyone knows jeeps arent the most comfortable ride but the cj’s are alot worse then the wrangler.
Q: What is a reasonable price for a 1986 Jeep CJ7?
Trying to sell my 1986 Jeep CJ7. It has at least 210,000 miles on it. It has a manual transmission, near everything is original. It’s in fair condition. No big rust problems, it runs well at the moment. What would be an accurate price?
A: $500
Q: Any creative ideas for installing surround sound in a 1984 Jeep CJ7?
My jeep has a stereo but no speakers anywhere. There are a few places for speakers in the dash, but has anyone out there ever installed an entire system in their Jeep Cj7 that isn’t just in the front dash? Any creative ideas as to where speakers could be installed in the back etc…..
A: There are all kinds of speaker boxes for jeeps, overhead roll bar mounting, big ones behind the seat with another smaller speaker that wraps around, above the wheel well toolboxes with places for speakers, ones that go on the floor in front of the shift knobs, and of course you can put them in the dash, you can find all this stuff on any jeep website, 4wd.com has a lot of stuff
Q: Where should I go in So. Cal to get my Jeep CJ7 engine replaced?
I have a 1984 Jeep CJ7 with a 258, inline 6 cylinder engine. I have had engine trouble for a while and am ready to replace or rebuild it. I would assume do it myself, but I don’t have the time, the space, or the tools to do it (I live in an apartment). Where can I go to get this work done around the Chino area of Southern California?
A: This place is closer too you than S.D county. They are called O&R 4 Wheel Drive Center. They are located in Bloomington. 909 877-5045. 25 yrs in the Jeep bizz. They know Jeeps better than Jeep. What they will do is pull the engine send it out to Orange Engines in Anehiem. Then re-install it with new belts, H20 pump & hoses. For my 1991 YJ it will cost me $3400 total. That is encluding a hotter cam, longer exhaust valves & balancing.
Or you can call Orange Engine 714-635-4030 (building engines for 35 yrs) and ask them who by you do they work with. My 4.0 rebuild w/o installation would be just over 2K.
I had a cheaper rebuild done (1700 total) and regreted it!
A rebuilt Jeep is cheaper than a new one….good luck!
FYI:
If you have a stick…..have the clutch replaced. I really like Centerforce.
If it is an auto then change the torque converter. BIG DIFF with a fresh torque converter!
Q: how do i find out what rear end i have in my 1985 jeep cj7?
how do i figure out what kind of rear end, front end, and transfer case are in my 1985 jeep cj7?
A: Try the JeepTech links below. If that doesn’t work, try the other links and match the bolt pattern to the ones on your Jeep.
Happy Trails!
Q: Anything I should know before purchasing a Jeep CJ7?
Well I have decided that I really want a Jeep CJ7. I have some concerns before I go on the market for one. Was there any recall on any parts in any of the CJ7s? Is there anything that they are known for good or bad (ex:known for bad break lines, gas lines, etc…)? Anything I should ask sellers besides basic general info. on vehicle? Are these jeeps very reliable and easy to work on and maintain, are parts expensive for them?
A: As with any used car purchase – I’d do a complete (or as complete as possible) mechanical inspection before making the purchase.
If the seller isn’t willing to let you do that – paying for the inspection yourself – the seller has something to hide.
Anyway – suspension, drive train (especially u-joints, there are lots of them); engine compression; fluid leaks; body rust (especially in the floor panels). Look for body damage that has been bondo’d over (if the Jeep’s been used like a Jeep’s supposed to be used, there probably is some damage somewhere). Steering linkages (from the wheel to the tie rod ends.) Depending on the age of the vehicle, you’ll also need to inspect visible parts of the wiring harnesses. Fuel tank (leaks).
Lots of this stuff is repairable if you have the time, money, and ability to do it. Nothing better than taking on the backwoods trails in a Jeep you put together yourself.
Buy a Chilton’s or Haynes manual for the vehicle and study the main components of the vehicle.
Good Luck

Q: What is needed to install a 1992 Mustang T-5 transmission into a 1980 Jeep CJ7 with a Ford 5.0 v8.?
1980 Jeep CJ7 originally equipped with a 258 I-6 and a T-176 4spd. Putting in a 1992 Ford 302 V8 with original bellhousing.
A: “With original bellhousing” doesn’t say what manual transmission it was – so it’s hard to say if the T-5 is a direct bolt in. It’s apparent they didn’t come together.
It’s also not really a Jeep question, but actually a modified Ford drivetrain issue. Regardless, you will need a correct bellhousing, clutch, flywheel, starter, and clutch linkage( mech or hydraulic,) to operate it. You have to match the pilot bearing for the engine and trans (IIRC there are a few choices) and for the spline count on the input shaft.
Most of that info will come from a hot rod Ford parts vendor. They will need to know exactly what original make, model, year and type engine and transmission. Often Ford parts are not identical across the lines even in the same year.
Q: how much money do you think it is going to take to restore a 1976 jeep cj7 v8?
it is not in a very bad condtion. and what was the orginal axle that came with a 1976 cj7?
A: The amount of money you spend on it depends on what you plan on doing to it. If its going to be original or modifications, the price will differ. That’s some research you will have to do on your own, you could go anywhere from a couple hundred to a couple thousand depending on your needs. Some parts are cheaper online, some are better at a junk yard. The axle for your Jeep would more than likely be a Dana 30 (front) and a Dana 35 or Dana 44 (rear) with 3.73 gears, Just do some research for what you need.
Q: Rebuilding a Clutch Mastercylinder in a 1984 Jeep CJ7?
I was wondering if anyone out there has rebuilt a clutch mastercylinder in a 84 CJ7 Jeep,
1) How easy was it?
2) Is it worth the time and money saved to do it yourself?
3) Is there any webpages out there that show a how-to on changing it and rebuilding it?
Thanks to anyone answers my question!!
A: You’ll need a hone to put on a drill motor. The MOST important thing about rebuilding a slave cylinder or ANY hydraulic system is CLEANLINESS, CLEANLINESS and then CLEANLINESS. It basically will be one or two pistons, rubber wipers and rubber boots and a return spring. The air will need to be “bled” from the system when it’s done too.
Q: It has been two years since I last started my ‘84 Jeep CJ7. What do I need to do before I try to start it?
I have had it in storage for about two years, and I’m sure that there are steps I need to take before I just try to crank the engine. The gas tank does have fuel in it.
It’s a 258 inline 6.
A: If you did not use a gas preservative I would suggest checking the level in the tank. If it is 1/4 full or less you might get away with filling the tank the rest of the way with new fuel to mix with the old stuff. The real problem might be the carb. Old fuel may have condensed and turned to jelly, plugging up all the internal passages and jets.
If I were you, I would change the oil in the engine first. Put a freshly charged battery in the Jeep and without touching the gas pedal, turn the engine over to get the oil circulating through all the bearing and in the passages. Probably twice at 60 seconds each will be enough. This will also pump gas into the carb bowl. I would remove the air cleaner and check the carb to make sure that the accelerator cable is free and would also shoot WD40 or carb cleaner onto all the moving parts. Get a flashlight and look down the carb throat and then work the accelerator by hand, do you see any fuel coming into the throat? If so then I would try to start it and see if it will run. You may have to pump it a couple of times.
If it starts I would run the tank low, by some Techron carb cleaner from local WalMart store and fill the tank again.
If the gas does not squirt into the carb throat the Jeep will not start because the carb is plugged up and needs to be taken apart and completely cleaned out.
Q: will chevy 350 bold up to 1979 jeep cj7 tranny?

A: No,you have to get a adapter kit. Don’t forget the motor mounts and working with the radiator. Check with Advance Adapters. Good luck
