Q: honda prelude?
I am currently looking at getting a 5th generation Honda Prelude. I need a car that will last me a while seeing as I will not have the funds to be able to get a new car anytime soon. I also want a car that is quick, light, and stylish. I love how the Prelude looks and I was wondering do you think this car fulfills my needs and wants?

A: Prelude is a great and reliable car. It took us from WI to NH, MA and NY without any problems.

Q: Honda prelude?
I’m interested in buying a used honda prelude. I’m really confused about the difference between each year and models. Anyone could help me out? Also, I’ve been told preludes are eavily beaten, do you guys have any tips on how to see if a car has been beaten? thanks

A: Hondas are good choices as they are japanese and so are notoriously reliable and plus they’re pretty quick; the vtec ones can do 0-60 in 6.7 secs.
Here is a great page with information on all the different preludes; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_Prelude

Q: Honda Prelude?
I’m wanting to buy a Honda Prelude (1997-up). Do you have to use premium fuel for them? What kind of gas miliege do they get? Are they fast stock?

A: You can use the low grade fuel and still get decent performance.

And if it is stick you will get btween 25 and 28 mpg. Less the first few months because you will want to go fast as it is a fun car to drive.

But at about 25,000 miles the timing belt will start get needing replacement Get that checked first.

They are fine cars. I’ve had four.

Q: What is the difference between a Honda civic and Honda Prelude? What’s better for upgrading for performance?
I love both the Honda Prelude and Civic hb and plan on getting one of the two soon. I want to have a car that has a lot of options as far as upgrading the performance of the car. Which car would be better for that? I preferably want to stay with Honda, but are there any other cars that are specifically good for what I want that may not be Honda?

A: i would say honda civic. the prelude is more powerfull but kinda heavy. consider also the acura integra..lol, i mean RSX. honda has a huge following, so aftermarket will always be available….search websites to see how much modifications will cost for each car. that might help you decide which is more bang for the buck. also, keep in mind that the accord had a larger engine, but the v6 only came with an automatic.

Q: What is the fluid capacity of a 1997 Honda Prelude automatic transmission?
I want to change the ATF in my 97 Honda Prelude Automatic. How much do I need to buy?

A: when you change the fluid you will not get all the fluid out the torque convertor will still have 3-4qts in it so you’ll only need to get 3-4 qts put about 2 1/2 qts in then start car and add a little more till it reads on top of stick move car a couple of feet then check again till it is full always check in neutral and use honda approved fluid if you don’t you’ll get harsh shifts

Q: What are the odds of a Honda Prelude being Faster than a Skyline GTR?
The prelude would be a stock standard 2000 model Honda Prelude VTIR.

What are the odds of both cars being un internally modified and stock standard and the prelude being faster than the GTIR?

A: No chance what so ever with both being stock the GTR models on paper where 276bhp due to regs in Japan until Jan 05 but Nissan let those cars out at around 330bhp and as we know still detuned with actual internal running power at around 600bhp.
The Skyline also features attessa also which already makes it fast off the line.
Also 0-60 times of the GTR on paper are rubbish also as when i took my then stock R33 GTS25T for a test run it ran a GTR 0-60+ time.
The Prelude is a nice car i borrowed one for a few weeks once and enjoyed it.

The chevy is a nice car as for the Skyline it has nothing to prove it has been around since 1957 and won a mass of races over those years and even still today is used by top tuning companies and owns the awd drag record and used at drift events, the R32 GTR led to motor racing rules being chnaged due to winning so often and rules then stopped it taking part in that class.

Q: How many miles can you expect a Honda Prelude to last for?
Would buying a one owner, all stock 2000 Honda Prelude with 110,000 miles be a bad move. It’s a five speed and has been taken care of. I can get it for $5000.

A: check yahoo autos, cars.com etc to confirm the price for a retail, trade-in and private party sale before you part with 5K

also spend $75 for a mechanic to check it out

how long will it last, with care………..the engine 250 K
the a/c, clutch, starter, electric gadgets…..they’ll be having issues soon

I know the Korean Cars Aren’t Cool, but they are getting better and better looking, perhaps a new one of those which has a100000 mile warranty is worth considering…….

some are going for $10K

good luck

Q: What cars are similar in looks to a Honda Prelude?
I desperately want a Honda Prelude, but I doubt that I will ever get one.

Are there any newer cars that are being made with similar looks to the Prelude? Doesn’t have to be a Honda.

A: I’ve always thought the Nissan 240SX resembled the Prelude. I used to own a 240SX and loved it.

Q: What is the mechanical buzzing sound on my Honda Prelude?
Everytime I start my 2001 Honda Prelude, and drive about 10 feet, I feel something vibrate and buzz somewhere underneith towards the engine. I can feel it slightly come up the steering wheel. It is very mechanical and I dont think it is a bad thing nor do I think anything is wrong; I just want to know what it is.

Any ideas?

A: i own a 98 prelude, same generation as yours, its the ABS performing a self test every time you start the car. So yeah you don’t have to worry about that buzzing! It’s perfectly normal and not an issue.

Q: How much more fuel efficient is a manual honda prelude then an automatic honda prelude?
I own a 97 base automatic honda prelude and I like it alot. But I now crave a manual because its more fun and you feel more in control. Well just out of curiosity how much more fuel efficient is the manual then the automatic? and how much faster is it? I don’t race, I am just a daily driver, and do you think I should have gotten the manual instead?

A: A manual is only a few mpg better than an automatic due to parasitic drag through the transmission. UNLESS the driver wants to race around all day.

Same thing goes for how “fast” it is. But if you have no idea how to race with a manual, its actually slower. Kind of like those kids that think double clutching is good for racing. FYI, it’s only good on the down shift. This would only apply in a road course or autocross, and not many people do that on a daily basis.

The automatic is better for you. Plus you can still talk on the phone, drink coffee, and play with the radio without having to worry about shifting.

Also go to a drag strip, all the high horsepower, serious racers have automatics to prevent any operator error so they can win a race.

Q: What engine can i swap into a 1st generation honda prelude?
What engine can i swap into a 1st generation honda prelude? Like an h22 or b18? What can i put?

A: The 3.1l engine from the early 90’s Chevy Lumina would be just perfect

Q: Where is the flasher relay located in a 1993 Honda Prelude?
I have a 93 Honda Prelude SI, 2.3L, and I’m looking to install this 3-pronged flasher relay, but I cannot find anything that looks like it under the steering wheel. Anyone know where it’s supposed to go? Thanks for any help!

A: it is in the fuse box under the dashboard.

Q: How would a 1995 Honda Prelude handle in the next few years?
I’m recently buying a 1995 Honda Prelude with 130K miles on it. I was told that it would be a good buy if it keeps up with 10K miles a year since it was manufactured. Also its 5-spd. Thanks.

P.S. Are there (and should I) any performance upgrades to basically make the car go faster? Thanks again.

A: Many Honda’s, Toyota’s, and Nissan’s can run upwards of 200k miles, so with a tiny bit of luck and regular maintenance that Prelude should be able to run for many more miles.

Performance upgrades and making your car go faster both decrease the miles the car will be able to run without breaking down and replacing a lot of things. So, with that being said, if you still want to go that route you could do many things. If you’re looking for big power, you could try a turbocharger or a supercharger. If you’re looking for naturally aspirated power you could try a super common H22 engine swap. Be warned though, all of those modifications (except a bare bones engine swap, providing it’s done correctly) would decrease the reliability of the vehicle. If thats more power than you want, you could always do the basic cold air intake + exhaust deal.

Q: What kind of rims of a 2000 Honda Prelude?
I just recently bought a used 2000 Honda Prelude. It’s the non-SH version, its automatic, its white (black interior) and it has about 104k on the odometer. I got a good deal on it but I have to replace the rims and tires because they were damaged and MUST be changed. I was wondering what are some good suggestions for rims and tires for this car. Specifically I would like to know where to get rims also what color I should get that would contrast the white exterior color the best. Also I would just like some general knowledge such as what size rims would fit my 2000 Honda Prelude. Thank you for anyone that can answer my question. It will help immensely. THANK YOU!

A: i think the best choice for your prelude can be 17″ with five spokes chrome rims because it can give you the best handling and a nice look for the colors of the car and about the tires if you don’t want to spend too much you could go for Yokohama or Hankook, maybe Kumho but if you want more performance go for Toyo, Nitto or Falken.
About the brand of the rims i recommend Volk, Racing hart, Klass, Enkei, Ace, Sevas, HRE…

Q: How do you know if your Honda Prelude is type SH?
I just recently got a Honda Prelude and I’m not sure if it is a base model or type SH. What are the ‘obvious’ physical reasons? I know that both have the DOHC Vtech stickers as well as the Type SH sticker on the rear but it looks like the previous owner took those stickers off on this vehicle. I also know that the Type SH has a stock wing but this Prelude has been modified.

A: 8th # in vin is a 5 for SH, 4 for base
Engine serial # is H22A4-X000001 for base, H22A4-X500001 for SH
SH transmission is M2U4 (only manual)
Base transmission is M2Y4 (manual) M6HA (automatic)

Things SH has that are different:
ATTS (active torque transfer system), atts light in dash
ATTS has a cooler line from radiator
overall steering ratio SH: 15.61, base: 15.75
various additional sensors
Steering wheel has a 3rd notch (not visibal unless removed)
No 3rd brake light in the rear deck
Spoiler w/3rd brake light
5 Spoke rims
Round ring on shift boot
Round style shift knob
Courtesy lights on door panel
Different shocks/springs
Oil filter is higher up on engine block
Body colored side and rear lips
Type SH decal on the rear trunk

ATTS light in your cluster (only on when atts is not working or you 1st start the car)

This is all from Preludepower.com, I’m sure that is where the person above got their information from as well.
